Chado Ireland

My name is Winfried Bastian. 1992 I moved with my family to West Cork in Ireland. I studied the Japanese Tea Ceremony under various teachers from Urasenke since 1979. I was awarded the tea name “Sobin” 宗敏 by the Grandmaster of the Urasenke School and have the permission to teach the Way of Tea.

Urasenke (裏千家, lit. “the rear Sen house/family”) is the name of one of the main schools of Japanese tea ceremony. It is one of the san-Senke (three Sen houses/families); the other two are Omotesenke and Mushakōjisenke.

Pages on this website show a short history of Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea, explain Tea in Ireland, show my Tea Room, and a Gallery with Photos.

I also organise demonstrations. The dates are shown in the calendar.

The blog page will be updated from time to time to introduce different aspects related in one way or another to the practice of Chado.
